      The Facts of why the matter of High Speed rail is important.

      There has been a great deal of discussion and study already.  The report by W S Atkins from 2003, updated in 2008 makes a strong case for HSR showing a cost benefit ratio of over 2 on an investment of some £32bn. 

      A number of our members are currently supporting the Greengauge 21 initiative on which the Department of Transport and Transport Scotland have observer status, whilst not actually committing to fund the studies.  Greengauge 21 seeks to provide an up to date in-depth study of the options available, adequate to convince government that this is a worthwhile and necessary investment.

      The Scottish Parliament Transport Committee has conducted an inquiry into High Speed Rail to Scotland.  Many organisations and individuals offered evidence, and the conclusions were highly positive.
